Whether you’re racing for a good cause, looking to get in shape for the upcoming summer months, or trying to earn some local brewery swag, there’s a race on the North Shore this month that’s right for you! Here’s our roundup of 10 local races happening in May:

 

The Bent Water Brewing Co. Thunder Squad Running Club Weekly RUN

May 2 (and every Tuesday)

Stay fit and fresh while enjoying fresh, local beer! Join the Bent Water gang for a weekly 3.2-mile run to the beach led by Angel Dee, a Lynn resident and avid runner. Meet in the taproom any time before the 6:30 p.m. start time. Run with the club seven times and receive a Bent Water t-shirt.

Danvers 5K

May 3 (and every Wednesday)

The Danvers 5K is a fun run. That means all are welcome to run and it’s not an official race. The group prides itself on being a diverse bunch and has regular runners of all ages and abilities. Plus, you won’t find too many courses as flat as this in New England. It’s not a table, but it’s pretty fast and only has a few light hills.

Meters for Liters!

May 3 (and every Wednesday)

Meters for Liters is a weekly 5K run from Notch brewery. This is not a race, just a chance to get out and drink some cold beer. Earn Notch swag when you complete 10 runs. Brewers Chris and Nate will join and when you get back to the brewery, there will be plenty of free beer and pretzels for runners. No sign up required.

6:30 p.m.- 8 p.m. Free. Notch Brewing, 283 Derby St., Salem

 

Evelyn’s Run for the Roses 5K

May 5

The 28th Annual Evelyn’s Run for the Roses 5K Women’s Road Race and Non-Competitive Walk will be run on Friday, May 5, 2017 at the Winner’s Circle, just off the Rte. 110 exit of Rte. 95, in Salisbury. The race will start at 6:30 p.m. The race features the popular Mother/Daughter and Sister/Sister women’s team award divisions. As in the past, profits and donations from the race will benefit the Jeanne Geiger Women’s Crisis Center (Newburyport). This year, the race will also benefit Gene Therapy and Research through Cure CMT4J.org Both organizations will gladly accept donations through their websites. To register, click here

NECC Campus Classic 5K & Fun Run

May 6

The NECC Campus Classic 5K and Fun Run has something for everyone. Participants can run or walk the USATF-certified 5K course through NECC’s picturesque Haverhill Campus and surrounding neighborhoods or cheer on their friends as they race to the finish line. The event also offers a Fun Run for children ages 12 and under.

Step Up For Colleen

May 7

The friends and family of Colleen Ritzer have created this 5K walk/run to celebrate Colleen’s life and her commitment to help and inspire others. Through the Step Up for Colleen event, organizers hope to enhance a sense of community and overall goodwill as we come together to honor Colleen and the values by which she lived.

3rd Annual Spring for the Trails Half Marathon

May 13

This 1/2 marathon (13.1 miles) race is part of the 2017 All Terrain Series sponsored by New England Running Co. The race will be held on beautiful trails, both single and double track, in Willowdale State Forest. Now is your chance to see some of the trails that are included in the Stone Cat Marathon and experience many new trails that you may not otherwise find. Men’s and Women’s 39 and Under, 40-49, 50-59, 60-plus.  To register, click here

First Half

May 13

This single loop half marathon course is mostly flat and fast with a few gently rolling hills. Runners will enjoy racing along the idyllic countryside and open pastures of Hamilton and neighboring communities of Ipswich and Essex. Come enjoy a day in the country as you race towards our huge finish line arch! To register, click here

Run for Freedom

May 20

5K road race in aid of Run for Freedom, an organization working on the front lines to create awareness about human trafficking. Click here to register. 

9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Cost: $25-$30. 57 Munroe St., Lynn

 

Trav’s Trail Run

May 21

3.0 mile XC race on Trav’s Trail XC course in Maudslay State Park. Course is on dirt road and pine needle paths. All race proceeds go the Travis Landreth Scholarship Fund. The fund donates thousands of dollars each year to programs that supports and promotes young people in the sport. Cash prizes for top finishers, merchandise and handmade mugs to three deep in each age division. New this year: A 1/2 mile kids run before the race. Click here to register.
