Not even the Andover Historical Society knows how long Andover Barber Shop has been around—probably 100 years or more. In classic barber shop fashion, cuts are strictly walk-in and Saturday mornings can be standing room only. With five chairs, the wait is seldom long, although barbers do take the time to ensure each head is shorn in style.

Paxton

Over at the stylish Paxton shop, though, appointments are necessary. The owner/stylist makes even the most haircut phobic feel right at home. Men (and women) rave about his keen eye for flattering cuts—perhaps a result of a former career as director of visual merchandising for United Colors of Benetton—laid-back attitude, and gentle prices. Business has grown strictly by word of mouth. But plan ahead—Paxton, who is part of an elite group designated by American Crew to educate on men’s hair trends—is a one-man operation. Busy evening and weekend appointments may need to be booked a month or more in advance.
