The Crane Estate, Ipswich

Standout Qualities: The Crane Estate is so much more than a beach or a mansion. The more than 2,100-acre Ipswich expanse, managed by The Trustees of Reservations, actually includes three incredible properties: Crane Beach, the Crane Wildlife Refuge, and Castle Hill, upon which a historic Georgian-style mansion, The Great House, majestically sits overlooking the ocean. Throughout the estate are trails, gardens, protected wildlife, and more. Interpretive programs, tours, events, and general public access ensure that The Crane Estate continues to inspire visitors for generations to come.

Fun Fact: Castle Hill is a 165-acre National Historic Landmark that was the summer home of Chicago industrialist Richard T. Crane, Jr., and his family from 1910 to 1949.

What’s new: The Trustees has launched a new smartphone app, TourTrustees: Castle Hill, that transforms your phone into your very own private tour guide for exploring the Crane Estate.
