On December 6, Build Health International will present a screening of the critically acclaimed documentary Bending the Arc at the historic Cabot Theater in downtown Beverly.

Bending the Arc captures the story of Partners in Health, the Boston-based non-profit founded in 1987 with the mission of “striving to achieve two overarching goals: to bring the benefits of modern medical science to those most in need and to serve as an antidote to despair.”

PIH’s work was the subject of Tracy Kidder’s 2003 book, Mountains Beyond Mountains: The Quest of Dr. Paul Farmer, A Man Who Would Cure the WorldBending the Arc tells PIH’s story from inception to present day, using their work for a broader examination of the global health landscape.

This film screening is a wonderful opportunity for Build Health International to bring together networks of supporters and friends on the North Shore and aligns closely with Builds Health International’s mission as a non-profit dedicated to planning, designing, constructing, equipping, and sustaining public facilities in low-resource settings.

Hôpital Universitaire de Mirebalais (Haiti), constructed by Jim Ansara and a team from BHI, operated by Partners in Health, opened in March 2013.

Build Health International is proud to present Bending the Arc for the film’s first screening on the North Shore and is grateful to be partnering with the historic Cabot Theater and the Salem-based culinary education non-profit, Root

The film screening will be preceded by culinary offerings from Root and will be followed by a lively question and answer session, led by Build Health International’s co-founders, Jim Ansara and Dr. David Walton.

The evening will also feature items for sale from Haiti’s diverse artistic communities, including pieces of original Haitian metal artwork along with items from locally-based non-profits Prosperity Catalyst and Haiti Projects
