The Trustees celebrate the opening of the newly restored Italian Garden with a weekend of Italian-inspired programs June 24-26, 2016. The restoration project, which closed the Crane Estate’s Italian Garden in 2015, included reactivating the fountain and grotto, rebuilding a wooden pergola, restoring the grass ramps leading into the garden, and replanting the perennial flower beds. Now open to receive visitors, the Italian Garden will host several public programs during the summer.

Commedia dell’arte

At the Italian Garden at Castle Hill on the Crane Estate, 290 Argilla Road, Ipswich MA

Friday and Saturday, June 24 and 25, 7:00 pm

The weekend’s festivities will begin with 2 nights of Italian comedic theater under the stars.

The troupe will perform the delightful commedia “Sleepless in Sienna,” scenario by Talia Felix, script by Thomas Alexander, and script adaptations by the ensemble. ??Two young lovers, being cruelly kept apart by their tight-fisted and insatiably greedy fathers, send endless declarations of love to one another via their weary servants. Exhausted by constantly schlepping love notes all night, the two wily servants join forces and devise a plan to finally get some rest. ??Leaning heavily on traditional Italian comedy, “Sleepless in Sienna” uses shtick hundreds of years old, while also making fun of the follies of today. This Commedia dell’Arte is perfectly at home in the newly renovated Italian Garden and a jubilant start to the summer.

Tickets are $24 for Trustees Members and $30 for Nonmembers. Advance tickets available at thetrustees.org. For more information, call 978.356.4351 x4015.
