On Sunday, March 6, 2011 Manchester Athletic Club hosted Spin for Hope.Â The club has participated in the event for 7 straight years.Â Spin for Hope began in March 2005 with a goal of raising $30,000. That year, six clubs participated, (Boston Athletic Club, Beverly Athletic Club, Manchester Athletic Club, Orchard Hills Athletic Club, Wayside Racquet & Swim, and Worcester Fitness) and raised $115,000 via online donations, cash/check donations, and corporate sponsorships. By 2010, the event has grown to nearly 50 clubs in New England, and has raised over $1.2 million.
At the event over 70 participants cycled on 50 spin bikes, used their training bikes on stationary trainers and ran on treadmills to raise money to fight Cancer.Â The participants were led by 9 instructors over a 3 hour period.Â Lindsay Norton, Group Fitness Director at the club and Nikki Parisi, group fitness instructor and personal trainer organized the event and every year the club is a top performer in fundraising.
Through Sunday, Manchester Athletic Club has raised over $27,000.Â The club expects to raise $40,000 for the American Cancer Society.Â All donations are welcome.Â Donations for the American Cancer Society are accepted at Manchester Athletic Club, 8 Atwater Avenue, Manchester, MA, 01944, attention Lindsay Norton.Â Donations can be sent through March 31, 2011.
