Last Sunday, November 5, Shalane Flanagan, a Marblehead resident, made history by becoming the first American woman to win the New York City Marathon since 1977. Finishing the marathon in 2 hours, 26 minutes, and 53 seconds, she has not only made her hometown proud but her country, as well. This last marathon is possibly Flanagan’s last race, although the four-time Olympian did not want to commit to the decision just yet. Fingers crossed that she continues to run and inspire us all.
