The North Shore Striper Blitz, a charity fishing tournament created by local anglers to benefit North Shore charities, will be held on Friday June 17 and Saturday June 18. The goal of the event’s organizers is to pass every dollar raised directly back to the Greater Beverly YMCA, and to donate all the fish caught back to local food banks to help hungry families through the Beverly Bootstraps Food bank.

“We’re excited about the opportunity to help two really good causes here on the North Shore, the YMCA and the Bootstraps Food Pantry,” said Matthew Smith, event chairman. “We’re a group of local anglers who wanted to make a difference and working together with the Mayor’s office, the Beverly Harbor Master, and our sponsors, we think this can become a Father’s day weekend tradition for North Shore anglers and their families for years to come.”

This year’s event will be held at Glover Wharf Municipal Marina in Beverly starting on Friday, June 17, at 4:00 P.M. and will end at Noon on Saturday, June 18. There are 2 divisions for Amateur and Professional anglers. Striped bass can be caught from a boat, shore, or kayak between Nahant and Thatchers Island. A weigh-in and a cookout will be held at Glover Wharf in Beverly at 1:30 P.M. All participants will receive a commemorative Tee-shirt and will receive free admission to the weigh-in cook out.

Registration is $65 per angler and can be done online at http://northshorestriperblitz.com/2016_registration_form/

Monetary proceeds from the tournament will be distributed through BSFC Foundation to local North Shore programs to that benefit children and families.

The 2016 recipient is the YMCA of the North Shore. The YMCA is an inclusive organization that develops the potential of youth and teens, improves our community's health and well-being, and gives back to our neighbors. The YMCA of the North Shore serves the communities of Amesbury, Atkinson (NH), Beverly, Essex, Georgetown, Gloucester, Groveland, Hamilton, Haverhill, Ipswich, Manchester-by- the-Sea, Marblehead, Merrimac, Newbury, Newburyport, Newton (NH), Plaistow (NH), Rockport, Rowley, Salem, Salisbury, Swampscott, Wenham & West Newbury.

Harvested fish will be generously processed and packaged by our partner, Rowand Seafood of Beverly, and donated to Beverly Bootstraps Food Pantry. Started in 1992 by the parishioners at the First Baptist Church, the Beverly Bootstraps Food Pantry provides food to those in need in the greater Beverly area. The organization also strives to educate food pantry visitors about the benefits of healthy eating on a budget by providing cooking and shopping classes that show our clients how to shop and prepare healthy meals for their families.
