Rockport Music is thrilled to announce the 2017 Rockport Music Board of Trustees Scholarship awardees—Kiva Trumbour and Anna Catena—both Rockport high School graduates.  Given to exemplary music students in Cape Ann, the scholarships are awarded to students majoring or minoring in music at an accredited college or conservatory who exhibit a passion for music, high academic achievement, and participate in school/community music programs.

Kiva Trumbour is already active as a professional musician, including performing as lead vocalist with the Boston-based Beantown Swing Orchestra.  As a jazz vocalist and trumpet player, she has won national and international awards, including the Berklee High School Jazz Festival’s 2017 Jazz Vocalist Award, as well as ensemble awards as part of the Rockport High School Jazz Band.  She is a member of the National Honor Society, and has been active in high school drama and music department productions.  She has taught at the Rockport Dance Academy, and volunteered for Rockport Music and other town organizations.  Kiva will attend Berklee College of Music in the fall of 2017 majoring in vocal performance.

Anna Catena has been heavily involved as a vocalist at Rockport High School, singing in the Glee Club, Madrigal Choir, and the High School Choir, of which she is president, as well as performing as a soloist in several high school musical theater presentations. Additionally, she has been involved in numerous volunteer activities including Operation Smile, an international organization that provides free and safe surgery to children in underdeveloped countries suffering from facial deformities; Christmas in the City, a Boston-based organization that hosts a holiday program for homeless children and their families; as well as working with other local non-profit and educational organizations. Anna Catena will attend the University of Miami next year, majoring in music therapy.

The Scholarship awards were presented at a Rockport Chamber Music Festival concert on June 15, 2017 with each student receiving $1,000 towards college education. The scholarship was established in 2013 in honor of Susan Gray and Alec Dingee and Eve and Phil Cutter.
