The Whistler House Museum of Art will host its annual "Interlude" on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. at the historic birthplace of James McNeill Whistler on 243 Worthen Street in Lowell.

For centuries, artists have been fascinated by depicting the animal world in all of its forms, from bison on the walls of caves in France to modernist abstractions of horses or impressionist interpretations of fish. At the Whistler House Museum of Art, animals abound. James McNeil Whistler had his peacock room and an array of butterfly signatures. Williams Phelps included cows and sheep in his pastoral scenes. It was sea creatures that graced the canvases of Arthur Spear.

This year, the Whistler House Museum of Art presents "The Art of Kingdom Animalia," an homage to animals in art that coincides with the 2016 Juried Members Exhibition, Kingdom Animalia. The fundraising festivities will open with a cocktail party at 6:30 p.m. and continue with dinner at 7:30 p.m. The Interlude will feature entertainment by Ralph Funaro and a raffle in which participants could win an original work of art from the exhibition.

The special events committee has been planning a number of activities to welcome their guests to the evening event. The committee includes Bob Roach, Terry O'Connor, Veronika Demers, Jack Moynihan, and Frank Makarewicz.

Dress is Black Tie Optional. Gentlemen are encouraged to wear their penguin suits. Ladies, this is an opportunity to show off your boas, feathers, and furs! Animal prints and accessories are encouraged.

The event, including cocktails, a 5-course gourmet meal, a night of music, and the sale of original artworks, is a $125 per person donation, $115 for members. Proceeds from "The Art of Kingdom Animalia" will benefit the Whistler House Museum of Art programs and art restoration projects.
