Wintertime Activities

Now that the snow’s finally here, you may be itching for a little fresh-air winter fun. Luckily, these North Shore standbys are here to help with outdoor activities that include the whole family.

  1. Skiing at Ski Bradford

This Haverhill ski resort offers ski and snowboard lessons for novices from age four and up, as well as fun weekend and holiday programs. The Terrain Park gives skiers the opportunity to test their skills on unusual obstacles. Bring the whole family or even book a group trip; Bradford offers equipment rentals, special group rates, and even season passes.

  1. Snow Tubing at New England Sports Park

Attention all thrill-seekers: New England Sports Park in Amesbury offers one of the steepest, fastest snow tubing hills in the area. A conveyor lift transports guests from the bottom to the top of the hill, and plenty of staff monitor the experience to ensure safe sliding fun. The park’s two-story lodge offers a place to hang your hat and get a bite to eat before or after hitting the slope.

  1. Cross-Country Skiing

Cross country skiing is a New England staple that’s simple to master and carries a big payoff. There’s no better way to experience the trails of the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary in Topsfield, Willowdale State Forest in Ipswich, or the Bald Hill Conservation Area in Boxford. One quick tip—park directors do suggest that visitors arrive soon after a big snow for the best skiing experience; unspoiled snow lends itself to smoother, speedier skiing.

  1. Ice Skating at Market Street

Lynnfield’s Market Street recently unveiled its MSt. Rink, a 50 foot by 100 foot real ice outdoor ice skating rink surrounded by the shops, restaurants, and other activities that Market Street offers. The rink is open 7 days a week, during the afternoons Monday through Friday and nearly all day Saturday and Sunday. Rent skates or bring your own; come alone, with friends, or even book special event!
