Yankee Homecoming

More than a quarter million people from all over the country visit Newburyport for this annual eight-day festival—and this year (July 27 through August 3) is likely to be the biggest yet, as the city celebrates its 250th anniversary. Downtown swarms with tourists and locals enjoying craft tents, food trucks, and free live music day and night. Families enjoy the midway and games on Olde Fashion Sunday, as well as activities and music at Family Day at Maudslay State Park. Events like the beer fest and a road race are topped off with a lighted boat display on the Merrimac River, fireworks, and the grand parade, which has been held on the first Sunday in August for the last 57 years.
