Persian, Islamic, Indian and Ottoman Empire era fine art and decorative arts are featured in Kaminski Auctions’ October 26th sale. Kaminski specialists have gathered a unique collection of paintings, sculpture, glass, porcelain, and important religious items.
The top lot of the sale is a rare pair of monumental Bohemian glass pokals circa 1850. Each is deeply engraved with a Turkish warrior on horseback. The pair stand at 32 ½ inches high and are possibly the work of August Bohm (c.1812-90). Bohm was thought to be the best of this craft in his day, and his work is in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. A similar pair of engraved pokals was presented at Sotheby’s on July 7th, 2009. The estimate on this rare offering is $100,000-$150,000.
An antique Iraqi Torah, comprised of five books, hand inscribed on animal skin, and measuring 64 1/2′ in length from a California collection is the second highest estimated lot at $30,000-50,000. From the same collector comes a Persian painting on paper, signed Rohani, in an inlaid mosaic frame, and a 17th or 18th century Persian manuscript page, hand painted with gold decoration. They are estimated at $6,000-$10,000 and $6,000-$9,000 respectively.
From a Florida collection comes an impressive pair of Persian palace doors made of hand chased metal over wood construction. The doors are intricately decorated with geometric motifs and semi-precious stones. The doors measure 78 inches high and 21” wide and are valued at $10,000 to $20,000.
New to the market and amassed over a lifetime, comes a stunning selection of Bohemian glass made for the Islamic market from an important London collector. The colors, shape and sizes are a symphony for the eyes when all displayed together. Colors of yellow Vaseline, ruby red, blue opaline and ivory with green overlay are all dazzling examples of this beautiful Czech Republic glass.
There are two large candelabra. The first is a stunning ruby red 19th century Bohemian three-arm candle sconce with cranberry overlay glass cut to clear, with two portraits on each shade. The other is a 19th century Bohemian clear glass five arm candelabra with enamel decoration, and a portrait and lion with saber decoration on each shade. Both are valued at $5,000 to $9,000.
The glass collection further includes a selection of Vaseline and cranberry glass decanters, blue opaline glass oil lamps, glass centerpieces with gold gilt decoration, a pair of cranberry glass carafes and a wonderful pair of highly decorated Vaseline glass covered candy dishes.
Indian items include a pair of rare 19th century sconces of carved jade from Mogul, India. Turkish items include a 19th century Ottoman dagger, silver mounted with Ottoman markings measuring 11 3/4″ in.
A large selection of fine Continental antiques and important estate jewelry from a Martha’s Vineyard estate round out the selection on offer at this unique sale. Of particular interest is a Pasabahce 22k gold plated bowl, inlaid with semi-precious stones purchased from the Oprah Winfrey Collection sale.
