Do you have ancestors who fought in the Civil War? Or were involved in the war in other ways? The Marblehead Museum would like to know. The Museum has begun a Civil War in Marblehead project, designed to expand our local history resources, and to collect and record that information for future generations. Contact the Marblehead Museum at 781-631-1768 or by email at email@example.com.
2011 is the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War. Many local and national commemorations are planned. The Marblehead Museum has several upcoming events directed toward honoring those who served in the Civil War. The month of April is significant in Marblehead history, as it was on April 16, 1861 that three regiments from Marblehead were the first in Massachusetts to report to fight in the Civil War.
On May 14 the Marblehead Museum and the Rotary Club of Marblehead Harbor will partner to present the Star Spangled Pops Concert. This year’s musical theme will be songs from the Civil War era. We would like to identify those with Marblehead Civil War history to be involved in the concert, Civil War activities, and to attend a special reception before the Star Spangled Pops Concert.
