Free Fun Friday

August 31 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Free

The Museum will be free and open to the public all day as part of the Highland Street Foundation’s Free Fun Fridays, a program offering visitors no cost admission to many of the most treasured cultural venues in Massachusetts on select summer days. This summer, 103 museums and cultural venues in Massachusetts will be open at no cost for 10 weeks during the summer — with 10 to 11 sites open for free on each day.

Join us to celebrate The Little House, a beloved children’s book by Cape Ann’s own Virginia Lee Burton, on the 75th anniversary of its Caldecott Medal. The Little House, which explores concepts of environmental consciousness and home, will be the subject of arts and crafts in the Activity Center. Take a gallery tour, and visit the 3-D model of The Little House built by the A4 Gallery in Tokyo, Japan.

Burton, author of the beloved Mike Mulligan and the Steam Shovel, Maybelle the Cable Car, along with many other titles, founded the Folly Cove Designers in 1941, a Rockport-based block printing collective. Cape Ann Museum holds the world’s largest collection of Folly Cove Designer prints. Find out more about the Folly Cove Designers here.

Note: In anticipation of large crowds at this popular event, docent-led gallery tours are cancelled and the Captain Elias Davis House will be closed.
