Winslow Homer Lecture Series: Homer and the North Sea
November 16, 2019 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm$10 – $20
Presented by Elizabeth Athens, University of Connecticut
This talk examines the influence of the time Homer spent in Cullercoats, England, and how it influenced his portrayal of the sea. While his earlier works cast the coast more benignly as a place for leisure or industry, his later canvases present the sea as a site of struggle between humanity and the natural world.
This program is offered in conjunction with the special exhibition Homer at the Beach: A Marine Painter’s Journey, 1869 – 1880.
Cost is $10 for Museum members; $20 nonmembers (includes admission). Tickets available online at Eventbrite or by calling (978)283-0455 x10.
