DESCRIPTION:More than 20 schooners from up and down the eastern seaboard will gather off Cape Ann this Labor Day weekend as part of the 39th Annual Gloucester Schooner Festival. From Thursday\, August 31 to Sunday\, September 3\, schooners will sail and race through the waters of Gloucester Harbor\, take passengers on thrilling sails\, and allow visitors to explore their decks.  \n\n\n\n\n\nThe festival kicks off on Thursday\, with the Schooner Challenge\, in which captains are challenged to navigate a course in the harbor – festival attendees who want to see the action close up can buy tickets to sail aboard participating ships. Ships will continue to arrive throughout Friday\, with several offering public sails and charter opportunities throughout the afternoon.

SUMMARY:Tall Tales from Blackburn Tavern at Gloucester Stage Company
DESCRIPTION:A world premiere of epic proportions\, this play brings to life the infamous Gloucester Sea Serpent\, the unheard-of Ghost Army fought off by Ebenezer Babson\, and the secrets from the Witches of Dogtown. Employing projections and puppetry to tell these larger-than-life fish tales\, audiences will revel in the magic of Gloucester’s oral history. Ages 13+ \n\n\n\nIn celebration of Gloucester’s 400+ Celebration\, Gloucester Stage has commissioned local playwright John Minigan (Sleepy Hollow\, Queen of Sad Mischance\, Noir Hamlet) to write TALL TALES FROM BLACKBURN TAVERN\, based on folklore from Gloucester’s 400-year history. Directed by award-winning director\, educator\, actor\, and producer Bryn Boice\, this production runs from September 1 – 24. \n\n\n\nPerformances are Wednesday & Thursday at 7:30pm\, Friday & Saturday at 8:00pm\, and matinees Saturday & Sunday at 3:00pm indoors at Gloucester Stage Company\, 267 East Main Street\, Gloucester MA.
