DESCRIPTION:Something strange is going on in the tiny seaside community of Annisquam. Dr. Wendell Petit\, a well respected Psychologist\, has not been showing up for work. He has been drinking way too much and his daughter has noticed some very erratic behaviors coming from the man she once idolized. Rumor has it that the good Doctor might be romantically involved with a woman less than half his age\, and the neighbors are starting to talk.  \n\n\n\nThat is the premise of Lawrence Hennessy’s darkly disturbing\, sometimes comic\, always tragic play\, Annisquam. Directed by Tim Diering\, Annisquam stars Jim Manclark as the troubled Dr. Petit\, with Katie Makem Boucher as his daughter\, Emma\, and Emily Colwell as his former patient\, Allison. Lawrence N. Hennessy is a licensed psychologist and playwright residing in Rockport\, Massachusetts and has produced numerous plays throughout Boston and Cape Ann.  \n\n\n\nAnnisquam will be presented at the Firehouse Center for the Arts Friday\, September 22 and Saturday\, September 23 at 8pm\, and Sunday\, September 24 at 3pm. The white walls of the historic Annisquam Village Church will become the canvas for a soundscape of swirling tone-colors\, as the Gloucester-based group presents To Paint the Night: a diverse bill of fare showcasing the richness and versatility of the string quartet format. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe program opens with Astor Piazzolla’s fiery Four for Tango\, before probing the dark night of the soul which is Dmitri Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 8— dedicated by the composer “to the victims of fascism and war.” Thelonious Monk’s ‘Round Midnight\, newly arranged for quartet by violinist and composer Scott Moore\, is all blues and purples and grays: lush\, playful\, and mysterious. The concert closes with the sensual Impressionism of Claude Debussy’s radiant String Quartet in G minor. \n\n\n\nThe Lobster Cove String Quartet is the latest creation of Moore\, Artist-in- Residence at the Annisquam Village Church. Moore is joined by members Erica Pisaturo (violin)\, Brandon White (viola)\, and Alex Fowler (cello). Ages 13+ \n\n\n\nIn celebration of Gloucester’s 400+ Celebration\, Gloucester Stage has commissioned local playwright John Minigan (Sleepy Hollow\, Queen of Sad Mischance\, Noir Hamlet) to write TALL TALES FROM BLACKBURN TAVERN\, based on folklore from Gloucester’s 400-year history. DESCRIPTION:More than 20 schooners from up and down the eastern seaboard will gather off Cape Ann this Labor Day weekend as part of the 39th Annual Gloucester Schooner Festival. From Thursday\, August 31 to Sunday\, September 3\, schooners will sail and race through the waters of Gloucester Harbor\, take passengers on thrilling sails\, and allow visitors to explore their decks.  \n\n\n\n\n\nThe festival kicks off on Thursday\, with the Schooner Challenge\, in which captains are challenged to navigate a course in the harbor – festival attendees who want to see the action close up can buy tickets to sail aboard participating ships. Ships will continue to arrive throughout Friday\, with several offering public sails and charter opportunities throughout the afternoon.
