Dads do so much all year long, and with Father’s Day on Sunday, up the ante on your gift by including a local treasure that isn’t an updated version of the tie you got him last year. With so many North Shore shops full of unique gifts, it couldn’t be easier to show dad some local love this holiday, and we’ve made it especially easy!

Step one: Simply select from the below list, organized by “Dad type.” Step two: Grab your wallet and head to the appropriate store. Step three: Sit back and prepare to wow dad on Sunday.

For the Boardroom: Office Dad is fun and all, but wearing a suit day after day is a little boring. Help dad step up his game (literally!) with a fun pair of socks from lisa b., available at Roost & Company in Salem. These lightweight socks come in cotton, perfect for those trying to beat the heat while looking professional. A variety of colors and designs, while different, aren’t too out there, so even the most conservative of men will enjoy sporting a pair.

For the Beachgoer: Summer fun loving dads will surely appreciate a new pair of flip flops, and this versatile pair from FatFace will complement just about any beach attire. You can stop in at one of their two local stores (Lynnfield and Newburyport) to pick up a pair he’ll wear throughout the summer.

For the Chef: Dad has enough grill tools. Take his culinary skills to the next level with an artisan, locally made olive oil from Port Plums in Newburyport that is as pretty to look at as it is to use. Know a dad who likes spice? Their Baklouti Green Chile Olive Oil is hot! And a must-try. They also have aprons to keep your chef’s culinary masterpiece off his clothes. The shop is a purveyor of Seacoast Sweets, locally made chocolate patties that come in a variety of flavors (the peppermint patty comes with my highest recommendation).

For the Chocoholic: For dads with a serious sweet tooth, a visit to Winfrey’s Fudge & Chocolates in Rowley will pay dividends. Just try to get out of there without buying something for yourself! The options are limitless (but a big cheer for the chocolate fudge).

For the Bookworm: No doubt dad loves his e-reader, but how about getting him into an actual bookstore? Does he love music? Fashion? Sports? Something else? The new Amazon Books has opened in Lynnfield to rave reviews. And Father’s Day specials are currently underway.

For the Dog Lover: Dad can show love for his four-legged bestie on his sleeve with a gift from New England institution The Black Dog, which has local shops in Rockport and Newburyport. Many dads are sure to find the humor in the brand’s new “Life off the Leash” long sleeve cotton tee, which comes in a roomy fit and is perfect to toss on when the sun dares to go behind the clouds.
