2023 Margarita

Editors’ Choice

Metzy’s Cantina, Newburyport

Owner Erik Metzdorf believes in only fresh ingredients—and you can taste the difference in the scratch-made margaritas. The Classic, for example, always starts with fresh-squeezed lime juice (no sour mix here) and top-shelf El Jimador Blanco 100 percent agave tequila. From there you can upgrade with any of more than two dozen different tequilas—although we’d recommend reserving the Clase Azul Reposado for sipping. Look for other flavors like Basil Strawberry, using fresh fruit and herbs for a bright, summery sipper. All are available by the glass or pitcher, or even in adorable grown-up juice packs to-go. 5 Boston Way, Newburyport, 978-255-7347, metzys.com

Amigo’s Mexican Kitchen + Tequila Bar, Peabody

House margs, made with Amigos sour mix, are available in every flavor from watermelon to Sour Patch—get yours frozen, on the rocks, or in a flight. Upgrades include topping with a mini-bottle of prosecco or a Coronita, or go with the bartender-recommended Margarita Premier, which comes with fresh-squeezed lime juice and a choice of top-shelf tequilas. 210 Andover St., Peabody, 978-532-0008, amigospeabody.com
