Ted Kennedy Jr. and Dr. Deepak Chopra to take the stage this year

The Salem State College Series announced today its speakers for the 2010 season. Disabilities advocate Ted Kennedy Jr. will open the Series on Tuesday, April 27. He will be followed on Thursday, September 23 by well-known mind-body health guru Dr. Deepak Chopra. This year represents the 28th season of Salem State’s nationally-acclaimed lecture series, which over its long history has brought U.S. presidents, Hollywood luminaries, animal activists, world leaders, and sports legends-among many others-to its North Shore stage.

As a disabilities advocate, Kennedy knows firsthand the struggles faced by those with physical challenges having lost a leg to bone cancer as a child. He has devoted much of his professional life and personal energy to furthering the causes of those with disabilities. Working with corporations, he has sought to expand job opportunities for the disabled and, as a teaching fellow on disability policy at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, he educates those in a position to effect change in the future. Additional passions are health care law, and addressing the environmental factors that lead to disease including pediatric lead poisoning, a leading cause of mental retardation. He currently serves as president of the Marwood Group, a health care-focused investment bank.

Acknowledged as one of the world’s greatest leaders in the field of mind body medicine, Deepak Chopra continues to transform our understanding of the meaning of health. Through his creation of the Chopra Center for Well Being in California in 1996, Chopra has expanded his healing approach using the integration of the best of western medicine with natural healing traditions. He has authored over 56 books, more than 100 audio, video and CD-ROM titles. He has regularly appeared on PBS and has been honored by the Toastmasters International with a Top Five Outstanding Speakers award.
