North Shore, MA Businesses Hold Chef’s Tasting Fundraiser to Help Combat Human Trafficking

WHAT: On Tuesday, November 15th, 2011, restaurants, chefs and businesses located north of Boston will join together to support the fight to end human trafficking. The event is inspired by Anuradha Koirala who won CNN Hero of the Year last November 2010 for her courageous work saving the lives of over 12,000 women and girls over the past eighteen years in Nepal.

The November 15th fundraiser “Take a Bite Out of Trafficking” will be an evening filled with special events including culinary samplings from some of the area’s most recognized chefs, an exclusive movie screening and an extensive and exciting live and silent auctions as well as raffle.

Held at the Ipswich Country Club, the evening will kick off at 5:30PM with a special Chef’s Tasting featuring samplings from various restaurants including: 62 Restaurant & Wine Bar (Salem), Tryst (Beverly), 15 Walnut (Hamilton), Adriatic Restaurant & Bar (Salem),  Ipswich Country Club (Ipswich), Mr. India (Newburyport), The Green Land Cafe (Salem), The Ipswich Inn (Ipswich),  Off the Vine (Rowley), Bistro 45 (Haverhill) and 43 Church (Salem).

Movie will show first at 6:00 and then again at 7:00. Following the Tasting at 8:00, we will feature a Dance Performance by Nepali dancers Jeny Lalchan & Devi Thapa Oli. At 8:15 TABOOT founder, Kerry “Kiki” Hook will give a brief talk with Q&A about her work in combatting trafficking followed by our amazing live auction and announcement of silent auction and raffle winners. During auction & raffle coffee and cupcakes by Cakes by Erin will be available. Some of the auction raffle items include a Chef’s Tasting for six at Terramia with World Renowned Chef Marisa Iocco; VIP tickets to Jimmy Fallon with night’s stay in NYC; In-Home Cooking Class for Four with Chef Tony Bettencourt of 62 Restaurant & Wine Bar; Weekend Packages; Spa Treatments; Waterfront Lobster Dinner for Eight; Kiki Larouge Photography Portrait Sessions and Fine Art; and much more!

The event, now in its third year, was created by photographer Kerry “Kiki” Hook who spent three months in 2009 volunteering at Maiti Nepal working closely with Anuradha and her team.

“My passion for raising awareness and funds for the fight against the atrocity of human trafficking is fueled by Maiti Nepal’s fearless and inspirational founder, Anuradha Koirala. Her NGO is the only resource of its kind for the defenseless women and children in the tiny, impoverished nation nestled in the Himalayas. The average age of the girls being sold is 9 to 13. Maiti Nepal, with its border surveillance teams, stops an average of four to five girls a day from waking up in to the unthinkable nightmare of forced prostitution.”

All proceeds from the event will go to help these non-profits in their fight to end this human atrocity.  Donations will benefit women and girls from Nepal to India in the form of medical emergency care, wellness visits, vocational training and basic housing needs.
