Pinkies up! Boston’s annual cocktail competition Libations for Preservation will be held at the Boston Design Center (BDC) in the Innovation and Design Building (IDB) this year on August 15 at 6:00 p.m. The yearly competition, held by the Boston Preservation Alliance, benefits the Young Advisors board of directors that helps to expand and amplify the alliance’s mission of preserving the history and culture of the city of Boston. The BDC and IDB are opening up their speakeasy doors to welcome this year’s prohibition-themed event. The cocktail contest will feature custom drinks handcrafted by Boston’s best bars and attendees will be able to vote for their favorites. This event and others like it hosted by the Boston Preservation Alliance help to raise awareness and support for the preservation efforts in Boston. This year, the celebration is doubled and tripled as the Innovation and Design Building turns 100 and the Boston Preservation Alliance turns 40! The historical maritime building was originally constructed in 1918 and served as a waterside storehouse during World War II. Today, the 1.4-million-square-foot building is home to an eclectic mix of companies and industries, anchored by the Boston Design Center, and is one of the precious historical buildings that the Boston Preservation Alliance has been working so hard to protect over the last 40 years. “We are thrilled to be hosting this year’s Libations for Preservation cocktail competition at the BDC and working with the Boston Preservation Alliance. Preserving the culture and history of Boston is very important to us at the BDC, and, of course, at the IDB,” says Kristan McLaughlin, general manager of the BDC. “This event is a great way to celebrate our building’s past and toast to its future.” Tickets to Libations for Preservations can be purchased on Boston Preservation Alliance’s website for $35 for alliance members and $45 for non-members. Participating bars include: Chickadee Restaurant (new to the IDB this summer!), Tres Gatos, Yvonne’s, and Eastern Standard.
