Backpack Drive to Benefit Children on the North Shore

SPUR sets students up for success in the coming academic school year.

As the warmth of summer prompts many to find a shady spot on the beach or pack a picnic and venture off on an excursion to soak up the sun and enjoy every moment; many families in our area face a ticking clock as they try to find a way to provide the required school supplies their child needs before the first class bell rings.

Over the past decade, Community of Friends has provided hundreds of area children with new backpacks and school supplies.  This past October, SPUR was selected by Community of Friends to carry this great work forward.

Based in Marblehead, SPUR is a registered 501(c)3 whose back-to-school drive will benefit children in Lynn, Marblehead, Salem and Swampscott. At present, SPUR has received requests for 560 children from programs they have supported in the past, and 137 on a wait list from programs who heard about the initiative and asked for support for their students.

Sponsoring is easy and truly transformative. You may sponsor from the SPUR website (www.spur.community) and click on “sponsor a backpack” or via mail with a check made Payable to SPUR and “backpack drive” in the memo.

DEADLINE TO SPONSOR IS AUGUST 10, 2016.

Given the busy summer season, we have taken the procurement of backpacks and supplies online.  By transitioning the ordering of the backpacks and supplies online, we have streamlined the process and hopefully made it easier for you to participate.

Choose from:

Purchase a backpack and supplies for a K - 2nd grader ($54.25)

Purchase a backpack and supplies for a 3rd - 5th grader ($62.75)

Purchase a backpack and supplies for a 6th - 12th grader ($71.75)

Purchase a backpack ($27.95)

Purchase school supplies ($34.95)

Through the kind-hearted giving of community members like you, the SPUR Student Success Back-to-School Drive is able to make the soon coming academic year less intimidating for children who would otherwise venture off to school, lacking supplies. One sponsor said “All kids deserve to start on a level playing field, and SPUR’s back-to-school drive makes that possible”.

Today, we invite you to SPUR Student Success and sponsor a backpack and school supplies.  Empower a child.  Provide the supplies needed to learn and thrive.  The need is great but together this crucial goal is totally achievable!

Thanks to our community partners in this effort, the Jewish Community Center of the North Shore and Marblehead Movers!
