Holy Family Hospital and Andover ENT have teamed up to offer FREE Head & Neck cancer screenings during the week of April 27th – May 1st, 2009, which is also Oral, Head & Neck Cancer Awareness Week. Morning and afternoon appointments are available and open to the public.

“More than 85 percent of head and neck cancers are related to tobacco use, making this one of the most preventable diseases of our time,” said Gentry Thatcher, MD, Andover ENT.  “By helping individuals and families understand the risk factors and symptoms associated with head and neck cancer, we can increase the likelihood that they will seek regular check-ups and eliminate high-risk habits such as smoking. In the event that the disease is present, when diagnosed very early, it is easy to treat and cure.”

Individuals who can answer yes to any of the following risk factors and who are experiencing any of the symptoms are encouraged to receive a free screening.

Risk Factors: Smoking, chewing tobacco, consuming alcohol and prior cancer of the region

Symptoms: A lump or sore that does not heal, a sore throat that does not go away, difficulty swallowing, a change or hoarseness in the voice

Screening Schedule: Morning and afternoon appointments are available and open to the public. Appointments are required and can be made by calling: (800) 488-5959 ext. 375.
