Location: Spinnelli’s Restaurant – Route 1 – Lynnfield
Description: The North Shore Arc Spotlight Program is hosting its 3rd Annual Comedy Night and Silent Auction fundraiser at Spinnelli’s Restaurant (Route 1 in Lynnefield) on Wednesday, May 13th, 2009 at 6:30pm.
This year’s goal is to raise $15,000 to continue the valuable programs and services that the North Shore Arc provides for people living with Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome.
The featured performer at this year’s event is comedian Butch Bradley, a live wire of stand-up comedy. Butch has toured the world, performing at comedy clubs in Japan and the UK, and entertaining U.S. military troops in Afghanistan and Iraq as part of the famous USO Comedy Tour. He has appeared countless times on Comedy Central, HBO, late-night talk shows such as Last Call with Carson Daly and The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Butch is currently a cast member on The Tony Rock Project airing on Fox.
Attendees will also see vocal and improvisational performances by various Spotlight students throughout the night.
The North Shore Arc’s Spotlight Program integrates theater games and dramatic training with age-appropriate activities for teens and young adults with Autism. Participants in the program learn relationship-building and other social life skills.
The program was launched in 2004 to address a serious unmet need – a new form of social pragmatic intervention for preteens and teens on the Autism spectrum using improvisational/theater games to provide a more hands-on approach to social learning and friend making. Since that time almost 500 young people have participated in afterschool and weekend classes, as well as summer camps, school vacation camps and overnights – often for the first time in their lives.
