A new line of Mexican lagers is coming to town, bringing with them a rich history, a future of good times, and hopefully some warm weather to celebrate it all!

La Gran Cervecería de San Luis was founded in 1871 by a Mexican farmer and a French immigrant. Their lager – Monopolio – was brewed for 50 years and was recognized with awards at fairs across the world. Today, the same recipe has been revitalized and reinvigorated by the spirit of modern craft brewing!

Monopolio Lager Clara and Monopolio Lager Negra are produced both in Mexico and stateside via partnerships with independent brewing facilities. The goal is to always create delicious and fresh beer for the local markets that the beer is available in – Night Shift Distributing is excited to announce that Massachusetts is now one of those markets! Monopolio’s products are brewed at Isle Brewers Guild in Rhode Island and have already started cropping up at stores and on draft lines around Boston.

Drew Mosher, Partner Brand Manager for Night Shift Distributing is enthusiastic about adding these new options to the portfolio:

“There are several things I love about Monopolio’s beers. They’re made in both Mexico and Rhode Island so that they can be delivered fresh to the consumer; they’re brewed with real corn and not extracts or syrups; they set themselves apart by being unpasteurized; and finally, they have a rich history and heritage guiding the company. More than anything, though, I love that Cervecería de San Luis is trying to give consumers a new option in this category. When was the last time you saw an authentic Mexican lager on a menu that wasn’t Tecate or Modelo?”

For Monopolio, distribution through NSD will open up new opportunities to share their story with enthusiastic foodies, beer store regulars, and larger accounts around the state of Massachusetts. According to Damian Wolos, owner and founder of Monopolio:

“We’re excited to team up with Night Shift Distributing in bringing the Cervecería de San Luis and the famous Monopolio lagers to Massachusetts. Our recipe dates back to 1871 and was one of the first lagers ever brewed in Mexico. Today we honor our heritage by brewing locally in New England, and by serving Bay Staters with fresh, all natural, craft quality cerveza. Monopolio es la única cerveza!”

Monopolio products will be available in 12-oz cans and 12-oz bottles, as well as on draft. As Mosher puts it: “Night Shift Distributing is excited to be working with Cervecería de San Luis and to have the opportunity to bring Monopolio Lager to an area of the beer map that’s been stagnant and neglected for too long.”
