Chebacco Lake

Co-located in Essex and Hamilton this 209-acre great pond is a tranquil body of water reminiscent of Henry David Thoreau’s Walden Pond. Open to public use for swimming, boating, and year-round fishing, the natural lake has an average depth of 9 feet and a maximum depth of 22 feet. Alewife Brook, the lakes only outlet flows 1.7 miles to the Essex River and each spring, alewife have returned from the ocean via the brook to spawn.
