Girls on the Run of Greater Boston will host its end-of-season 5K event on Saturday, June 3 at Hopkinton High School. Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based, positive youth development (PA-PYD) program that prepares girls in grades 3-8 for a 5K event along with empowering them to reach their potential and learn life lessons.

This is the biggest season yet for the Greater Boston council, with has 576 girls and 37 teams throughout the area, coming from Abington, Acton, Bedford, Boston, Brockton, Brookline, Cambridge, Canton, Chelsea, Chestnut Hill, Danvers, Dedham, Dorchester, Hopkinton, Hudson, Ipswich, Manchester, Marshfield, Methuen, Needham, Newton, Norfolk, Sharon, Somerville, Stoughton, Topsfield, and Westford. The celebratory 5K brings all these teams together to end the season with an exciting event, showing them that the finish line is just the beginning when it comes to going after their dreams.

“Girls on the Run is awesome! I just love this program and what it teaches. Working with young girls, building their confidence, and seeing them accomplish their goals means the world to me,” says Sarah Hudon, teacher and coach at Tenney Grammar School in Methuen. “Becoming a coach four seasons ago was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I can’t wait to see my girls cross the 5K finish line!”

Girls on the Run expects close to 1,300 runners to participate in the Spring 5K. Each girl runs with a running buddy, and the event is also open to community runners. Registration is still open online through Wednesday May 31 for $25, and on-site registration will be available at the event for $30. All proceeds go toward the Girls on the Run Greater Boston Program.  The event will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 3.  Attendees can take part in the Girls on the Run Festival and pre-race activities. Early arrival is suggested. For more information about the event, how to register, and volunteer opportunities, visit girlsontherunboston.org.
