The luck of the Irish is returning to Martha’s Vineyard, starting with the Seventh Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, March 17 at 11:30 a.m. Participants are encouraged to gather at 11 a.m. on Dock Street to join the parade and kick off the weekend full of holiday festivities.

Residents and guests of the island can continue the celebration at Kelley House’s The Newes from America Pub, where live music performances will commence at noon, and the band Pick Pocket will later play at 9 p.m. While classic pub fare can be enjoyed throughout the day, The Newes will once again be offering their Traditional Corned Beef and Cabbage special for $18. Lunch and dinner guests will also have the chance to draw a lucky wooden nickel (one per table) to win instantaneous prizes and discounts, including free entrées, desserts and more. Those who purchase a beer will receive two nickels instead of one. There’s even an opportunity to win a complimentary two-night stay and dinner for two at Kelley House: patrons must simply guess the number of wooden nickels contained in the large fishbowl.

But the fun doesn’t have to wait until St. Patrick’s Day. On the evening of March 16, the Kanaley School of Dance will provide a preview of their Irish jig prior to their performance in the parade. And in honor of Ireland’s storytelling traditions, the hotel’s annual Limerick Contest is currently underway – providing actual and aspiring poets a chance to win a prize for their creativity. Through March 17, verses of three-long and two-short lines with the rhyme scheme AABBA, made popular by artist and writer Edward Lear, may be submitted at The Newes or via email to social@scouthotels.com. Shortly after, the pub will announce a winner. Second and third place prizes will be awarded, too.
