Newry, ME —There’s no place like Maine for the holidays—especially on Santa Sunday at Sunday River Resort. To kick-start the annual Santa-filled weekend, the Maine ski resort welcomes runners and walkers to their first annual Holly Jolly Fun Run 5K race on December 1 at 10:00 a.m. Sunday River Resort is home to eight interconnected mountain peaks of world-class skiing and snowboarding in the winter months, and in the summer is home to 20 miles of lift-serviced downhill mountain biking, scenic chairlift rides, zip line tours and more. Foreshadowing the highly-anticipated Santa Sunday—an on-slope event where 250 Santa-inspired skiers and snowboarders hit the slopes of Sunday River—the Holly Jolly Fun Run arrives just in time for the holiday season. The 5K event welcomes family, friends, and four-legged pets to dress up as their favorite holiday classics to complete the 3.1-mile route. The course starts at the South Ridge Lodge, taking runners in a circle through The Colony neighborhood, onto the Jordan Access Road, and finally back up Skiway Road to arrive back at South Ridge. The Holly Jolly Fun Run would not be complete without holiday-themed rest stops for walkers and runners along the way. “The Holly Jolly Fun Run will set the tone for our beloved Santa Sunday, and a fun-filled holiday season at the resort. It’s a great opportunity for family and friends to build further on a tradition already in place,” says Caroline Ochtera, Director of Events for Sunday River. Registration for walkers and runners is $20 per person and is open now. All money raised throughout the event will benefit the Sunday River Community Fund. The fund, established ten years ago, is dedicated to furthering the growth of community service and cultural organizations in the Sunday River region.
