The Junior Aid Society Inc. will host its third annual Beach to Beach 5K Run on Saturday, May 15, at 10 a.m.

“Both serious runners and amateurs are encouraged to enjoy the race and help support our neighbors,” Junior Aid said in a press release. “Baby strollers and walkers are also welcome.”

The certified course begins by Devereux Beach, runs through the beautiful Goldthwait neighborhood and then heads across the causeway around Flint Street and back to the Beach.   North Shore Timing will professionally time the race.

“The Beach to Beach Run is a fun way for Junior Aid to expand its impact on North Shore organizations that benefit women and children,” said Amanda Velluto, Junior Aid Chair for the event. “The run also reinforces the importance of families helping other families – and we’ll have a great time doing it.”

All children will receive a medal for participation, and trophies will be awarded for finishers in a number of categories. The first 150 registrants will receive a free event T-shirt.

Marblehead hot tot-spot Hip Baby Gear is once again the presenting event sponsor for the Beach to Beach 5K Run. Associate sponsors are Seaport Chiropractor, Burn Marblehead, Kim Crowley Design, Chakra & La Belle Femme, Fastenal, Runner’s World, Cabot Creamery and Stephanie Moio of William Raveis Real Estate.

“As a local merchant, I am always looking for meaningful ways to strengthen our communities,” noted Monica Winter, owner, Hip Baby Gear. “This run is especially important because the money raised will help young families make it in this struggling economy.”

Interested runners can pre-register through Active.com. A link to the registration site can be accessed at www.junioraidsociety.org. Pre-registration is $17 for adults age 18 and up ($20 the day of the event) and $8 for children age 6 to 17 ($10 the day of the event). Children age 5 and under are free. Event planners request that pets are left at home for the safety of all participants.
